Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC Still Hasn’t Played the Biggest Ace Up Its Sleeve

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's DLC is already bringing even more new Megas to the game with Mega Raichu X and Y, and the recently revealed Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur. Along with new Megas, Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC is also confirmed to feature a variety of returning creatures as well, including Golisopod, Corviknight, and Annihilape. While these confirmations are exciting on their own, perhaps the most exciting returning additions are still being kept under wraps.
Despite having over 60 Mega Evolutions available in the base game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is still missing a handful of Megas that could return in the Mega Dimension DLC. Currently, the only Megas missing from Legends: Z-A are:
With how prominent starter Mega Evolutions have been in the marketing for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it's strange that the Megas for the Hoenn starter trio have been absent so far. These creatures are definitely some of the big guns in terms of popular Mega Evolutions, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them appear as stars in an upcoming trailer.
Prior to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, only the Gen 1 and Gen 3 starter trios had Mega Evolutions. With the release of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Meganium, Feraligatr, and Emboar all received Mega forms along with the original Kalos starter trio of Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja. With the Gen 1 starter Megas available in the base game of Legends: Z-A, all that is missing now are the Hoenn trio, which seem primed for a DLC debut.
The good news is, according to the leaks for Mega Dimension, that Sceptile, Blaziken, and Swampert are all returning, as are Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza. Even Groudon and Kyogre are allegedly appearing in this DLC, complete with Rogue Mega Battles against their Primal Reversion forms. While it's unclear just how players will access the Mega Stones for the Hoenn starter trio, it seems likely that they will be tied to online ranked battles, much like how the Kalos starter Mega Stones have been.
Although it was controversial at first, the concept of locking Mega Stones behind online battles has proven to be less of a worry than it initially seemed. After Mega Greninja proved fairly easy to obtain in Season 1, requiring players to only need to reach rank K to obtain Greninjite, Season 2 has made getting these rewards even easier. Greninjite can now be earned simply by reaching rank Y, and Delphoxite has been lowered to a reward for rank S in Season 2. Pokemon Legends: Z-A players still need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to access these rewards, but otherwise they are very easy to earn.
Even with Mega Baxcalibur slated to be the reward for Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 4, having the three Hoenn starter Megas as future rewards is a great way to extend the life of the game and keep players active in the Z-A Battle Club after the DLC releases. The popularity of these Megas also make it seem likely that the game will use them to entice players to participate in online battles for the foreseeable future. It may be a controversial move to lock DLC Mega Evolutions behind a paid online subscription, but Mega Baxcalibur has already set this practice as standard, making it seem all the more likely that the Hoenn starter Megas will follow suit.
