Beyond Halo: Campaign Evolved, there are some other great shooters coming in 2026 to satisfy FPS players.
Fans of first-person shooters have had a few games to chow down on in 2025. Battlefield 6 has been tearing up the charts recently thanks to its impressive multiplayer modes and bombastic campaign. EA also launched a free-to-play Battle Royale game in the series called Battlefield REDSEC.
Soon, shooter fans can also check out an impressive suite of modes in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and for a more focused campaign experience, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is on the way. That’s about it for 2025 shooters, but 2026 will have plenty to offer as well. While games like Judas and Crisol: Theater of Idols could come out in 2026, they aren’t surefire bets, whereas these other games are.
The first major first-person shooter scheduled for 2026 is High On Life 2. The original game was a surprise hit when it was released in 2022, thanks to the bizarre humor and weird weapons that talked. It appears that the same wisecracking weapons will be returning in the sequel, along with new ones.
Despite the game having a release date, there’s still a lot unknown. Will it be somewhat open-ended again, or will it be more segmented like a Call of Duty campaign? Whatever the case may be, fans can expect High On Life 2 to be another bizarre shooter, and that’s all that matters.
Mouse: P.I. For Hire is the shooter for fans of Cuphead, looking for the next cool hand-drawn experience, harkening back to cartoons of the 1930s. Players assume the role of a private investigator, Jack, on the hunt for gangsters around town.
Jack will be voiced by a notable voice actor from the gaming industry, Troy Baker, so expect the game to have a bit of gravitas. Beyond shooting, it looks like players can punch foes, throw dynamite, and take pictures. There certainly won’t be anything else like Mouse: P.I. For Hire in 2026
Halo: Combat Evolved was released in 2001 alongside the original Xbox, and its first big anniversary was celebrated with a remaster in 2011, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary 2011. Fifteen years later, the original is getting updated again via a full remake called Halo: Campaign Evolved.
The remake will appear on PS5 too, which is a huge step for the Halo franchise. There will be no multiplayer, but players can go through the entire updated campaign with three other friends online. While the loss of multiplayer is a shame, it’s certainly something that could be added later. For now, Halo: Campaign Evolved is something worth celebrating for fans of the original campaign.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is the FPS for those who miss the days of '90s shooters like Doom and Wolfenstein 3-D. Nowadays, retro shooters harkening back to the glory days of non-stop shooting are categorized as “Boomer Shooters,” which is funny and fitting.
Like the original 2023 game, this sequel will feature sprite-based models in fully 3D environments. It will have plenty of classic Warhammer franchise weapons, from rifles that fire bolts to chainsaw swords. For anyone who missed the original game, they should play it now to catch up before Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 drops in 2026.
Valor Mortis takes place in a messed-up version of what seems to be the French Revolutionary War. As a deserter of Napoleon’s army, players are just trying to survive as fellow countrymen, and enemies have started mutating around them. They are transforming into creatures, making this fantasy historical game look something like a Soulslike adventure.
It’s not strictly a shooter, but Valor Mortis will give players plenty of guns to fight back with, from pistols to rifles. There will also be melee weapons like swords, and it seems like magic or some sort of power system will also be in the game.
Valor Mortis has horror vibes, but Animal Use Protocol will be pure horror in first-person. Players will wake up as a chimpanzee named Penn who can speak. The lab he was raised in seems to be destroyed, and his fellow animals are now monsters looking to feed.
Penn is not alone, though, as he has a mouse companion that seems to communicate through a Tamagotchi-like device. This unconventional pairing, weapon loadouts, and setting help Animal Use Protocol stand out, and it should bring the terrifying vibes when it launches next year, and hopefully on more than just PCs.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a sequel to the original game that launched in 2021. That was a World War 2 shooter, whereas this sequel will take place in Vietnam and allow players to fight for either side of the conflict. It will feature 50v50 multiplayer matches across giant maps and several modes.
It’s almost like the Vietnam version of Battlefield 6, complete with tons of weapons and soldier classes to check out. While a campaign would have been nice, multiplayer fans will at least be eating pretty when Hell Let Loose: Vietnam comes out.
