Elden Ring Devonia's Hammer Guide (Shadow of the Erdtree Build) Shadow of the Erdtree Build
In this Elden Ring Build Guide, I’ll be showing you my Devonia's Hammer build. This is a Shadow of the Erdtree build that takes place after level 150. If you’ve been looking for a Twinblade build that deals great damage with it's weapon skill Devonia's Vortex, then you might want to check this build-out.
In the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the Devonia Devastator build utilizes Devonia's Hammer and the Crucible Knight armor to achieve devastating results. This build is named after Devonia, one of the Crucible Knights faced in the DLC, from whom players can obtain this hammer and matching helmet. Devonia's Hammer is a colossal weapon that deals primarily physical damage, with some holy damage, and scales exceptionally well with strength. It also offers decent faith scaling and boasts a fantastic guard boost, making it a powerful choice for heavy hitters. However, its significant weight of 20 presents a challenge, especially when combined with the heavy Crucible Knight set.
The weapon skill, Devonia's Vortex, resembles Ordovis's Vortex from the Greatsword of Ordovis. This skill involves a twirling motion followed by a powerful ground slam, which can be charged for increased damage. When combined with talismans like Shard of Alexander and Godfrey Icon, the damage output becomes substantial. The predominantly physical damage of this weapon is easily boosted by buffs like Flame Grant Me Strength or Exalted Flesh.
Initially, the build was intended to incorporate Crucible incantations, as the Crucible set enhances these spells. However, using the Clawmark Seal for its strength and dexterity scaling results in an attack rating loss, making the incantations less effective than using the Erdtree Seal with high faith. While the aspects of Crucible Bloom incantation proved to be less effective due to its tendency to miss moving targets, the aspect of Crucible Thorns was found to be a viable option due to its effective area-of-effect attack.
The biggest challenge with Devonia's Hammer is finding the right moment to use Devonia's Vortex, especially the charged version. The skill provides hyper armor during charging, allowing the player to tank through many hits, including some from bosses. The strategy involves using jump attacks, running attacks, and regular attack chains to break enemy stances, then following up with Devonia's Vortex to maintain pressure and keep the enemy staggered.
For this build, the Erdtree Seal is used primarily for its zero weight, as the overall weight of the build is already high. The Crucible Knight Set, particularly the Crucible Tree Armor, offers excellent protection and poise, essential for standing toe-to-toe with bosses. Although the Crucible Knight incantation boost from the armor is not utilized in this build, the high protection and poise make it ideal for aggressive play.
The recommended talismans for this build include the Two-Handed Talisman, which boosts all non-weapon skill attacks; Shard of Alexander, which increases the damage of Devonia's Vortex; and the Great-Jar's Arsenal, which allows the player to equip heavy armor and weapon while maintaining a medium roll. The Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman provides additional physical protection, making it easier to trade damage without dying. Other talismans to consider include Godfrey Icon, which boosts the damage of charged versions of the Devonia's Vortex. This is particularly useful in boss fights where charged attacks are frequent. The Two-Headed Turtle Talisman is another option for managing stamina recovery, especially if Endurance is lower.
The recommended attributes for this build are 50 Vigor, 25 Mind, 30 Endurance, 65 Strength, 13 Dexterity, 16 Intelligence, 25 Faith, and 9 Arcane. Intelligence and Arcane are not needed and are only present due to starting as an Astrologer. Vigor at 50 is sufficient, but increasing it to 60 is advised to handle the damage trades. Mind is set at 25 to allow for occasional buffs like Golden Vow and Flame Grant Me Strength. Endurance at 30 is necessary for medium rolling with the current equipment. Strength is at 65, just below the soft cap of 66 for two-handing the weapon. Dexterity is at 13 to meet the weapon's requirements, and Faith is at 25 to use buffs effectively.
Combining the Opaline Hardtear for extra protection and the Greenburst Crystal Tear for faster stamina regeneration is recommended. This helps mitigate the heavy stamina usage of the build.
Regarding Great Runes, Radahn’s Great Rune is an excellent choice, providing bonuses to HP, FP, and stamina, making the build easier to manage. Morgott's Great Rune is also a solid option for increased health, which is beneficial for surviving damage trades.
Overall, the Devonia Devastator build is about standing toe-to-toe with bosses, taking hits, and breaking enemy stances with the powerful Devonia's Vortex skill.
